New Table

This is just what I wanted. My third table since moving. Found in my parent's basement. Covered in
sawdust. Chairs via Goodwill for 4 dollars a piece.

New Toy

We picked up a new toy the other day.  It is used, and was really dirty.  She had so much fun spraying it off with the hose in the sun.  I keep hinting that we need to unscrew that huge Dora off the side of it.  I am not the biggest fan of everything being super commercialized.  She already watches way too much tv.  Knows every word to every Calliou episode.  Alas, my dear daughter loves to feed the Dora, and give the Dora hugs.  Dahlia is such a hugger.

Four Years

It feels like I have been working on this afghan for four years. It has been the most time consuming project of all time.  Now that I am at the border, it gets harder and harder for me to want to push through.  The border is all white, and the lack of color is less exciting.  I hope it looks semi-decent when I am done.  I said it would be for Dahlia's room, but...I kind of want to play with it first.  We shall see...it may be an octagon shaped mess when it is completed.

In other news...it was my four year anniversary today.  I woke up  to Dahlia running in the room, JR following, with a bouquet of purple flowers that they went out to get for me. JR had a coffee in hand for me.  Nothing makes me happier than fresh flowers and coffee ready to go the second I wake up.  I also got to sleep in which was nice!  Especially since JR has been working so much at the marina.  JR's job is perfect for him.  He works on a marina at a lake.  There is a beach ("beach" on a lake...but who cares) maybe 200 feet from where he works.  Dahlia and I have been going there to make sand castles and play in the waves.  She is getting more comfortable to the idea of floating in water, and kicking.

Sneak Peak: My Life

Life has been crazy.  Have done much soul searching.  Decided to come back to blogging.  We are out of my in-laws basement, and I am still inspired.  I was worried that my creativity would simmer down after I was once again exposed to sunlight and daily chores.  It hasn't.  I am still inspired daily.  Something quite radical popped up in my life since I moved out..Pinterest.  Of course everyone now is obsessed with this amazing social network.  It is pure genius.  I am still addicted to my favorite blogs.  I am still addicted to my favorite magazines.  I am addicted to creating, and learning DAILY.

Over and out...

Been a Long Time

It has been over three months since I last posted on Rosey.  My house is still coming together wonderfully.  I have put so much time into re-acquainting myself with having my own home again.  I have sewed curtains and pillows, scoured antique malls, painted and sanded furniture, arranged and rearranged.  It is more work getting back into the swing of cooking and cleaning, while holding down a full-time job, and being a wife and mommy. I can honestly say that life has never been happier for me.  When I come home at night, and my daughter runs up to me to say "I poopied my pants", I am given extreme joy.  I love scouring the Internet for recipes and other home ideas.

Besides settling into our house, Dahlia turned 2 last month.

My best friend, and event planner extraordinaire, took some fabulous pictures of the birthday bash.  She featured them on her blog here.

I have also recently started a new hobby, that I am absolutely obsessed with.  Sewing clothes.  This is something that I have ALWAYS wanted to do.  I used to watch Project Runway (when it was still on Bravo and good), and get inspired to sketch my own designs.  All the while, letting my poor Hello Kitty Janome machine sit in my closet unloved.  That has all changed.  I bought a pattern and went at it.  So far, I am two skirts and one dress down.

First skirt.  It turned out well and looks more A-line in person, than pictured.  I effed the zipper area up, but it is still looking great in my opinion.

Second skirt.  I tried the same pattern, but put in more pleats so it would be poofier.  The fabric is sturdier than the gingham is, and I am just in love with it.

So more to come.  To be honest, the invention of Pinterest has totally taken me by storm.  I have been madly addicted to it.  I have decided to get back down to the basics.  Work on Rosey again, continue pursuing my hobbies and working towards improving myself every day.

Trying to Paint Furniture

I have read all of the DIY painting tutorials on furniture.  After the toybox debacle, I was pretty apprehensive, but the other option was to have an ugly dresser with no character, so I tried again.  I still am not a pro.  It is an art that I am convinced I will learn though.  The dresser was originally all oak wood.  I painted it in SW Gris, distressed it with sandpaper, and then put a varnish gloss over.  I think that I will paint the handles black and stain the distressed parts darker.

The next dresser is take 2 on dresser painting.  It is next to dresser 1,so I want them to look similar.  I have had dresser 2 for as long as I have been living on my own, it was my grandma's.  My Grandma was a pretty crafty lady in her own way and I am sure she would like to have the dresser loved and used as much as it has been.  I just hope the paint job I give it doesn't eff it up!

Dahlia's Room

Working on the little one's room has proven to be difficult.  On one hand, I need to keep all of her toys and colorful playmats around.  On the other hand,  I want to make it cute and eclectic in it's own right.  The grouping of the paper lanterns was one thing that I saw on a blog a long time ago.  I have saved it in my mental home decor bank, and today I did it.  I think they look cute.  Work in progress!
