Just a Note

I know that I am not always good at posting daily.  It is my dream to take this blog to some level where people actually want to comment on it and email me...not quite there yet.  I know that I need to update daily for that to happen.  My mind is going in so many directions lately.  I have this afghan that is taking me weeks to finish. I want to try to paint something atleast once a week.  I want to make projects.  My newest passions is obviously planning our new house.  I have the dream of refinishing furniture as a new hobby.  On top of it, I need to make  a photo album of our wedding photos (3.5 years later and I still don't have any pictures printed).  I need to print up all my digital photos of Dahlia for her baby book.  I need to write down all my favorite recipes so that I can be prepared when we move and don't have an awesome mother-in-law to cook for me every night.  On top of all these things in the grinder, I work full time until 6:30 during the week.  I have a sweet toddler who needs my attention from 6:30 to 9, or whenever I can finally get her to fall asleep.  I have a husband who wants to spend time with me.  Sometimes I feel selfish for having so many other hobbies and projects that give me such joy.  This is a result of being utterly dead from creativity for years.  The right side of my brain just woke up.  I also credit reading The Happiness Project for getting the ball rolling.  I then went through my hundreds of magazines and made a "dream binder" that really led me to finding the things that truly make me happy.

I am so fortunate to no longer rely on television or others for my happiness and entertainment.  I can do that all myself. Don't get me wrong, I love my family.  They complete me.  My new found hobbies are just icing on the cake.

Anyway....this is where I have been.  If anyone in the world is reading this, I really appreciate that you are.  This blog has really meant so much to me and I am so excited to continue growing it.

Love Me

More Pillows!

So I found this amazing fabric tacked to the back of a bookshelf at the ReStore last weekend.  I fell in love with it.  I convinced the manager to just sell me the fabric for 5 bucks.  I got about 3 yards of it.  Best part is that it is a very heavyweight Morrocan print fabric.  Perfect for throw pillows in my living room.  Perfect for my white couch and gray walls.

Star Mobile

Inspired by Etsy,  I took it upon myself to make a star mobile for Miss Dahlia's room.  It took three nights, and was a lot of work.  I hand cut all of the stars.  This is the result.

Living Room

It has been about a week since my last post.  I have been crazy busy creating every night.  Plus, baby Dahlia hasn't wanted to go to sleep very early which really creeps into my blogging and creating time.  I have really been refining my living room wish list.  I am going to break it down for you in some inspiring images that I have seen lately and match my plans.

Via Show & Tell I found massive inspiration.  I already had the white slipcovers, gray walls, colorful pillows pinned down.  Once I went to her blog today, I found the rug that I have been wanting.  A Jute rug.

Better picture is here.  My only concern is that my wood floors will be too light.

Now this image I have featured before.  It also has the white couch and slipcovers.  The other elements that it has that I want to incorporate are the blue lamps, and bamboo shades.  I also want white sheer curtains.

This is the clean pallet that I am working with.  My only concern is the windows.  Do I put six or eight sheer white panels in?

The other side of the wall needs an entryway table.  Looking constantly for the perfect piece of furniture.  I hope to find something before we move that will fit on the wall, but not be too wide.  Ideally, I would put a mirror above, but Show&Tell takes a more decorative approach.

So those are my ideas.  What do you think??

40s Fashion

So apparently, 40s retro dresses are actually really in style this season.  I am finally right on target!  I love 40s fashion.  I have always been obsessed with the pin up girl dressed to the nines in a gorgeous dress with a bold print.  Red lipstick and retro hair have always been a staple of mine.  These are some finds that would look great in my closet!

Michelle Armas

Michelle Armas is a fabulously talented artist.  I am in love with her colorful abstract paintings.  I could really see her art hanging in my house.  He style is completely encompasses my taste in art.  I used to be more attracted to realistic art, and almost think that abstract art wasn't really art at all.  It wasn't until I started painting again this past year, that I fell in love with abstract art.  I see it in a new light.

What I Have Been Up To

I had a great weekend with Dahlia. My hubby worked all weekend so I didn't see him much.  I had a great night Sunday night when I had a short but oh so sweet visit from my childhood best friend Rachel.  It is hard to describe my friendship with Rachel to others.  Growing up, she was the closest thing to a sister that I could have ever had.  We were practically next door neighbors and she was the one that I spent every day with growing up.  We used to write and perform little musicals for no one in particular.  We were so silly and lived in such an unbelievably fun imaginary land.  It would be so nice to go back to that play land for a day.  We were so innocent.

This was Rachel and I with another childhood friend (center) back in the day.  I am on the left, Rachel is on the right.  We had such a sweet style as little girls.

Pin Curls...How To

Wash and dry your hair until it is almost damp.  Once damp take small sections of your hair and roll them around your finger. Then pin them with 2 bobby pins to your head like little cinnamon buns.  I usually sleep in a bandanna overnight to protect my hair.

This is what my hair looked like in the morning after sleeping.

This is the result of the hair.  You can take your fingers through your hair or brush it.  The result is always fabulous and is the only way that I can get my hair to stay curly all day.

Atlantic-Pacific

I know that I have mentioned Atlantic-Pacific before on here, but I am truly in awe of this woman!  If there ever was a real life Carrie Bradshaw, she is it.  She does style like no one else.  As far as my personal style goes, Blair from Atlantic-Pacific really has given me some true fashion inspiration.  I even wore bootie peep-toe heels to work today with cropped pants.  They hurt like hell, but I got so many shoe compliments!

Art Inspiration

How cool is this piece of art?  And what is it?  Is it a bunch of paint samples?  I am sure it isn't....whatever it is I like it!  I wish I could remember where I found this image.  It was saved in my art file on my desktop and I don't have a source for it.

Sneak Peak Via Design*Sponge

Design*Sponge posted some new sneak peaks today.  This one is from a home in London.  I love this image above.  I think the idea of featuring your most standout clothing pieces front and center is a great idea.  The white armoir is a piece that I have been looking for.  This one is beautiful.

Photo Galleries

Last Christmas I got a big pack of picture frames from my brother.  I printed up all of my favorite family photos in black and white and hung them up on the walls.  That was one of the best places in my former house.  Now my frames are scattered here in my basement residence, and in our storage unit.  I cannot wait to get them all back together and put them in their rightful place on the wall together.  I have been looking at photo galleries and thinking about  framing some of Dahlia's art alongside our family photos.  I think that the hallway between the bedrooms and bathroom is the best place in our new house for this.
