Headboard

I purchased an oak and particle board layered piece of wood at the ReStore a couple of weeks ago.  I had been looking for an old door to repurpose into a headboard for months.  When I laid eyes on this 66" piece of wood, my heart jumped up and down with excitement.  To others, this is just a crappy piece of wood, but to me it is perfect.  I also picked up a small paint sample can in Benjamin Moore "Silver Mist".  All together it cost me $20.50.  Tonight I painted the headboard with two coats of the paint.

My next step has been inspired by The Show and Tell Blog.  Shauna give's a tutorial on how to glaze furniture.  Post paint, I am going to glaze the headboard to give it an aged look.  Below are some images of her tutorial.  I really really hope that it turns out well.

My future home is coming together so nicely.  I cannot WAIT to have my own home again.  Excitement does not even describe how I am feeling about the future.

Restoration Hardware DIY

Everyone has seen and had their mouths drop in awe at the amazing birdcage chandelier form Restoration Hardware.  In the spirit of the DIY movement, Homa Style made their own version.  Just as gorgeous and thousands of dollars less.

One of the most perplexing things about my new living room layout is what I should do with the entryway.  It isn't a large space, but it needs something to balance out the living  room.  After viewing these images, I had the thought that instead of an entryway table I should use a bench.  

I went over to a newly found website by a woman named Ana White.  She has plans for furniture and other DIY projects.  I am not kidding, this blog is AMAZING!  I found this bench on her site and think that it may be perfect for my tiny entryway.

Ruffle Shower Curtain

My next project is taking longer than I thought it would.  It requires precision and the acquisition of new sewing skills (ruffles....what?).  I bought 7 yards of white fabric ($12 bucks with a 40% off coupon from Hobby Lobby).  I am making two panels that will match each other.  I was inspired by a similar shower curtain that I saw recently.  My ruffles are larger and there are less of them.  I am doing two at the top and three at the bottom.  The first panel is done and the second is about to be started.  I then need to look for clips on rings that I can attach it to.  I think it will be such a fun focal point for the bathroom.  I chose white because I need all the white and light I can get when I move into my new house.  White couch and chair slipcovers, white sheer curtains, white shower curtain.  Let the sunlight in!!!  I cannot wait to have windows and fresh air.  

Book Wreath

I saw a version of this wreath on Etsy and another design blog recently.  It was made slightly differently.  I decided to try my own take on the book wreath.  This was originally the Nicholas Sparks' book "The Wedding".  I started by tearing out all the pages from the book.  "Best thing a Nicholas Sparks book has ever done" says my husband.  I  then folded each page into an accordion.  I then planned to hot glue the pages to the a Styrofoam wreath.  Unfortunately, I got the wrong size glue sticks for my new hot glue gun.  So after that miss, I proceeded to pin the pages onto the wreath.  This took me a couple of hours.  It took some playing with.  I am quite fond of the finished product.  It is ginormous and will look fabulous on a wall in my new house.  I think it would be cool to put a mirror in the center, but unsure how I could do that.

I have been working my little booty of crafting and making stuff the past couple of weeks for our new house.  I will be writing a post tonight about all of these fun things I am working on.  I am making my husband CRAZY I think.  Once I get some time and I get the baby to bed I will post images.....
